Grand prize winners picked in online contest

THE three grand prize winners in the Star Online-LG contest each received a 32-inch LG LCD television set recently.

The three were Leong Teik Fei, Tai Shan Lee and Shirley Tan.

They had completed six rounds of the contest which were LG Life’s Sweet, LG Life’s Clean, LG Life’s Cool, LG Time for Change, LG Life’s Fresh and LG Live Borderless.

All three admitted that the TV set was the biggest prize they had ever won among all the contests that they had entered.

Tan, 41, a former senior finance manager who has quit her job due to stress, said she had been taking part in online contests for the last six months.

“Working is stressful. I want to enjoy life and joining online contests is something extraordinary.

“I always strive to break my own record and have succeeded in it today,’’ said Tan, who had won a number of Star Online contests before.

“The television set will look good in my living room. It will replace my current 29 inch set,” she said.

Tai, who is a graphic designer, said he only had a 15-inch television set as he seldom watched television at home.

“I’m a racing fan and I look forward to watching the next Formula One race on my new television set. It is more than double the size of my current one.

“Maybe, I would call my friends to come over to watch the races with me,’’ said the 29-year-old Penangite.

Leong, 34, a computer programmer, also has a 29-inch set and had been wanting to get a bigger one.

“I have been taking part in online contests for the last three years and have won a rice cooker, coupons and electrical appliances. This is my biggest prize so far.

“It took me a while to get used to slogan- writing. Once I was comfortable with the right slogan, I used it many times,’’ he said.

The consolation prize winners — Tan Mooi Ling, Low Sophia and Goh Ting Cheu — won a Rain limited edition pack worth RM400.

LG Electronics Malaysia Sdn Bhd Home Entertainment product manager Foo Mun Yee said she was surprised that the contest received more than 11,000 entries.

“We have been promoting our products online because we feel there is a huge untapped market here and many customers are looking for products online.

“In our website, many customers are looking forward to buying our latest products and there is a good demand online.

“Four months ago, we have also revamped our website to 2.0 followed by having LG Blog and LG facebook with about 5,000 members.

“We are looking into having Twitter soon,’’ she said.
