KUANTAN: Permodalan Nasional Berhad’s (PNB) combined unit trust sales hit 4.38bil units with 583,691 account holders in Pahang as of end of February, its group president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman said.

As for its latest product, Amanah Saham 1Malaysia (AS 1M), a total of 11,148 investors in the state had subscribed to 98.86mil units, he added.

“I hope that the number will increase as we are having a nationwide promotional campaign to create and educate the public about our unit trusts including the latest product, Amanah Saham 1Malaysia.

“I urge the public to visit our booths to know and understand about our products and the benefits when we come down to your places,’’ he said at the launching of the state-level promotional campaign for AS 1M here recently.

Pahang was the seventh location in its nationwide promotional campaign.

His speech was read by deputy president of unit trust Idris Kechot.

PNB held a roadshow by mobilising a MyVi AS 1M squad in and round Kuantan, Pekan, Maran, Rompin, Temerloh, Bera, Jerantut, Kuala Lipis and Bentong from March 18-26.

Hamad also said by going down to the ground, PNB hoped that it would be able to stir the public’s interest to invest as well as foster better ties with them.

He added that sales for all its nine products grew to 11.8bil units in 1990, recorded a sharp rise of 36bil units in 2000 and shot up to 100bil units in October last year.

Among the factors that contributed to the success were efficient fund management, continous educational and awareness programmes carried out nationwide and the unit trust attractive features, he added

“Our products are simply one of a kind in the world and among its attractive features are minimum initial investment as low as 10 units or RM10, minimum additional investment of one unit, high liquidity and easily accessible.

“We even managed to hit a combined unit trust sales of 19.3 billion units and attracted 700,000 new account holders despite the financial crisis last year which reflected the sound state of our products and effective public awareness programmes,’’ Hamad said.

He also said PNB now offered nine products since it introduced its first unit trust - Amanah Saham Nasional in 1981.

Other products are Amanah Saham Bumiputera (1991), Amanah Saham Wawasan 2020 (1996), Amanah Saham Nasional 2 (1999), Amanah Saham Malaysia (2000), Amanah Saham Didik and Amanah Saham Malaysia 3 (2001), Amanah Saham Gemilang (2003) and AS 1M(2009).

During a question and answer session with the public held after the event, Idris assured that none of the investments made were linked to liqour or gambling activities.
