THE firefly colonies along Sungai Sepetang in Taiping are being threatened by agricultural and industrial activities.
Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) senior conservation officer Sonny Wong said a Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia study revealed that about 3km of the 32.5km river was located in the Matang Forest Reserve while the rest of it flowed into state and private land where prawn farms and plantations were located.
