ERAMAN Malaysia, the airport travel retail (ATR) business operators, won the Duty Free News International (DFNI) awards for being the best in the Best New Store, Confectionery and Fine Foods category, beating more renowned names like Chocolixir and World of Chocolate last year.
Eraman won the award for the Kidz Smart Tunnel, located at the Contact Pier of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang.
The award was a pleasant surprise for Eraman as the DFNI is part of The Metropolis International Group, which is based in London and is the world’s biggest travel-retail publisher.
“We deem it another feather in our cap since we first started operations 17 years ago,” Eraman Malaysia CEO Umar Bustaman said.
Umar said DFNI had also hosted events that brought together key players in the travel retail industry, including those from the airport travel retail category and therefore the award could be deemed as an international achievement for KLIA.
Eraman Malaysia began operations at the North Wing of Terminal 1 at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport before moving and expanding its business to KLIA.
The company now operates around 30 retail outlets, offering travellers a special shopping experience regardless of whether they are arriving or leaving Malaysia.
Umar said the company operated retail outlets at KLIA, Penang International Airport, Kuching International Airport, Kota Kinabalu Airport, the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal-KLIA and Labuan Airport.
“We have 38 outlets and our aim is to keep abreast of market trends,” Umar said.
He said the company believed in creating a sophisticated image and placed emphasis on brands that complemented the company’s image.
Umar added that the retail strategy at KLIA was focused on customer needs by adding a new concept of lifestyle emporiums like the Kidz Smart Tunnel, which is dedicated to junior travellers.
The site, opened in July 2009, was previously a children’s play area and has been transformed into a colourful and vibrant haven for kids, well stocked with the latest toys and chocolates.
