ENDURANCE sports will continue to be a part of Malakoff Corpo-ration Bhd’s Community Partnerships programme for the new season. Besides the two core disciplines of running and cycling, they are also combining both pursuits in duathlon races.
Recently, the company’s managing director and chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya announced the major events lined up to attract community participation with an investment close to RM1mil for the year.
“We are committed to initiating and hosting local community-based sports events. We are also keen in developing talents for multi-sports, especially in duathlon.
“For recreational athletes, combining both running and cycling offers them a total physical workout,” he said.
As they are anticipating another exciting season ahead, they will be starting their sporting calendar with a 26km run in Penang on April 11.
And, the three legs of the University Duathlon Series held over three weekends are scheduled on July 24, July 31 and Aug 6.
Ahmad Jauhari also revealed that they were finalising the details to introduce the inter-university team contest for students from tertiary institutions in the duathlon series.
“We are pleased to provide the opportunities for people from different abilities to take part in healthy physical activities. We need careful planning to allow the potential entries to prepare for the events.
“It is encouraging that our sporting events are gaining popularity with a significant increase in participation over the years,” he added.
Other events include a three-day charity ride in Kelantan (June 4-6), Powerman Malaysia in Perak (Nov 14), 12km run in Kuala Lumpur (Dec 19) and the two-day Interstate Fellowship Ride (Dec 31 and Jan 1).
The ninth edition of the Powerman Malaysia to be held at Seri Manjung, Perak, will remain as the sole Asian qualifier for the hopefuls to earn their slots at the annual world meet at Zofingen in Switzerland.
