Apprenticeship on dying trades

THE state’s traditional crafts have been given a boost with the Penang Apprentice Programme for Artisans (PAPA) which seeks to actively promote intangible cultural heritage and preserve these unique skills.

A project run by the Penang Heritage Trust (PHT), PAPA identifies artisans and brings them in to pass on their skills to apprentices, with the aim of ensuring that these precious assets do not end up as mere footnotes in history.
