THE first ever night marathon — the Putrajaya Night Marathon (PNM) — will be held at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya on Feb 6.
About 8,000 participants are expected to show up for the PNM, offering a total cash prize of RM300,000. It is jointly organised by World Action Sports (WAS) and Twenty First Century Sports with support from Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) and sanctioned by the Federal Territory Amateur Athletics Association (FTAAA) and Malaysia Amateur Athletics Union (MAAU).
The PNM was launched by Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin recently. Besides the 42km run, the PNM will have the 21km, 7.7km and 5km fun run.
WAS chairman Tengku Zafrul Aziz said the PNM would be flagged off at 8pm on Feb 6.
“About 3,000 participants have already signed up for the various categories in the PNM. The PNM will be an iconic international running experience that is a must for marathon runners.
“The participants will find the run interesting. It will be cooler and for runners even a degree of difference in temperature can make a big difference,’’ added Zafrul.
An added attraction is that participants will run past some of the most distinctive architecture at night, wide boulevards and open green spaces.
“There is no other marathon in the country that will take on such scenic night routes and the PNM will take runners on the main boulevard of Persiaran Perdana through some of the capital’s key landmarks such as the Putra Bridge, the Prime Minister’s Office and Putra Square,’’ said Zafrul.
Nong Chik said the PNM was in line with the PM’s vision to inject more night life into Putrajaya.
“There is not much night activity in Putrajaya and we believe this one-of-a-kind event will promote both the capital and Malaysia to the world,’’ said Nong Chik.
The registration fee for the full and half marathon is RM40 and RM30 respectively for early birds who register before Jan 10 and RM50 and RM35 thereafter.
It is RM10 for the 7.7km for early birds or RM15 thereafter. The corporate challenge and fun run is fixed at RM500 and RM10 respectively.
