THE Junior Unity Rhythmic Gymnastics Carnival to be held at the Tropicana City Mall in Petaling Jaya on Oct 25, will be the first of its kind in the country.

Organising chairman Sarina Sundararajah said the championships, catering for the Under-10 age group, was the first in the country to held in a shopping mall.

“It is also the first inter-team event with gymnasts from different races.

“We are proud to initiate the championships with SportsUnite and Milo. We thank Tropicana City Mall for being the venue sponsor,’’ said Sarina, a former international.

The championships is organised by the Sarina Rhythmic Gymmastics Club (SRGC) and sanctioned by the Selangor Amateur Gymnastic Association (SAGA).

About 80 participants, from 16 clubs in the Klang Valley, are expected to display their skills in the championships. Each team will comprise four Grade One and one Grade Two gymnasts.

The winners will be decided in three disciplines - freehand, hoop and clubs - and prizes will be offered for the team, individual and overall categories.

The Malaysian Gymnastics Federation (MGF) will be providing the technical officials for the championships. Six qualified technical officials will serve as judges.
