WHILE birds, especially those of smaller species seem harmless, they can cause serious damage to aircraft and even result in plane crashes.
In an interview, Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) airports standard director Dr Zainun Fuad, who is also part of the National Birdstrike Committee, said: “It depends on the angle of the strike. The turbine engine is made from blades and even a small bird can cause major damage especially when it is ingested into the engine.
