FORMER basketball internationals Paul Daniel Advincula, from the Philippines and Malaysian Tan Kee Hian conducted a coaching clinic at the Garden International School in Mont Kiara recently.

The clinic was to promote the grand finals of the AND1 Streetball Challenge at the Berjaya Times Square on Oct 25.

About 50 students attended the two-hour clinic, initiated by Ossia World of Golf, the distributors of And1 brand in Malaysia.

Ossia World of Golf executive director Saw Swee Leong said the clinic was the third in the series of programme to garner support for the grand finals.

“The youngsters are showing a lot of interest in basketball. Both Advincula and Tan were accomplished players and now active in coaching. We are confident the students would have gained after attending the clinic,’’ said Saw.

Both Advincula and Tan stressed on dribbling, passing and shooting and the students were also given the opportunity to display their skills during the drill.

Tan said they were impressed with the students’ enthusiasm.

“They had the basics but we were able to give them an insight on 3 on 3 streetball which is played in a fast pace. They have promised to continue training regularly. We hope to see them at the grand finals,’’ said Tan.

The grand final is the culmination of the four-leg circuit held in Petaling Jaya, Johor Baru, Klang and Penang.

Ossia World of Golf is the organisers of the challenge while the venue sponsor is Berjaya Times Square; Milo is the official beverage; StarMetro the official media and Fly FM the official radio. The challenge is sanctioned by the Malaysia Basketball Association.

Saw said they were expecting about 400 teams to sign up for the various age groups in the grand final.
