IN 2004, a few hundred villagers of Kampung Berembang in Ampang, Selangor, were evicted and their houses demolished to make way for a squatter resettlement project under the then Selangor government’s zero squatter policy in the state.
Some were provided with alternative housing at either Puchong or Jinjang, while some were given RM7,200 to cover two years’ rental to find their own accommodations while waiting for the new low-cost flats to be ready for them to buy.
