Dance of love and spiritualism

THE gracefulness of each movement, the fluidity of upper body movements, firm footwork and expressive faces of dancers performing in the Odissi dance show ‘Anjali —Homage to Guru Sri Deba Prasad Das’ was a testament of the beautiful form of the sacred dance.

Utilising powerful and energetic footwork, also known as tandava, juxtaposed with graceful feminine postures and movements, the dance, which originated from the eastern state of Orissa in the 16th century, is all about the way a dancer stands, the movement of the eyes and the way one moves with the music.
