THE Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) has rewarded international cyclist Mohd Rizal Tisin with RM5,000 for his impressive outing in the World Track Championships in Poland last month.
In the championships, the Selangor-born Mohd Rizal won a bronze medal in the 1km time trial with a new Asian record.
The 24-year-old Mohd Rizal clocked 1:01.658 to erase the previous record of 1:02.095 set by him in Victoria, Australia three months ago.
MSNS deputy chairman Amirudin Shari said they were proud of Mohd Rizal’s record-shattering display in the World Track Championships.
“The amount is not big but it showed our appreciation for Mohd Rizal’s sacrifices and dedication. Mohd Rizal should also take the incentive as an inspiration to get better results,’’ said Amirudin.
Mohd Rizal, who will be leaving for Australia to resume his training programme, thanked the MSNS for the reward.
“It is certainly good to know that the MSNS has recognised my feats. I am keen to do well in the other competitions as well,’’ said Mohd Rizal after receiving the reward from Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
Mohd Rizal will be taking part in three competitions - Asia Cup, World Cup and the Asian championships.
The championships, he added, were important as he prepares for the 2010 Asian Games and Commonwealth Games in China and India respectively.
