The lure of agarwood

For 45-year-old orang asli entrepreneur Kamahudin Ang Sew Siang, it all began when he started to look for the ‘kayu gaharu’ in the jungles of Kedaik near Muadzam Shah.

Kayu gaharu or agarwood is also known as karas, aloeswood, eaglewood or engkaras (aquilaria malaccensis). Its resin is used to make perfumes and other fragrances.
