ANGLERS may be familiar with the annual Fishing Competition in Putrajaya but there is a change in the venue this year.
For the first time since its introduction in 2001, the competition will be held at the Taman Botani Lakeside in Precinct 1.
Tomorrow’s event is organised in conjunction with the Federal Territories Day 2009 celebrations.
As a symbolic gesture, Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPj) president Tan Sri Samsudin Osman released a few fish in the Putrajaya Lake on Thursday.
Fish species like ikan kerai, ikan tenggalan, ikan kelah and ikan patin were among the batch released into the man-made lake. The biggest fish released was an ikan patin weighing 14kg.
The competition is based on the catch-and-release concept to ensure the fish population in the lake continues to thrive and to balance the lake’s ecosystem. Points will be awarded based on the type of fish species caught.
About 1,000 anglers from throughout the country are expected to try their luck in landing a prize catch with RM5,000, RM3,000 and RM2,000 in cash up for grabs. Consolation prizes of RM200 each await fourth to 13th place winners.
Those who come in 14 to 20 will receive prizes in the form of electrical goods and fishing equipment. There will be also be lucky draws and bonanza draws offering Modenas Kriss motorcycles. Side events include cooking and colouring contests and a clown show.
