THE recent Putrajaya Water Festival 2009 witnessed a surge in spectators this year with many people braving the heat to watch the different races and competitions.
Held at the Putrajaya Lake Club in Precinct 8 on Feb 15, the day-long event, in conjunction with the Federal Territories Day celebrations, attracted more than 2,000 visitors.
The highlights of the festival were the team events where participants competed in longboat races, water volleyball, aqua pillow fight and tug of war in the water.
Side events were also held to keep the crowd, especially the children, thrilled.
These included drawing and colouring contests, Explorace and a treasure hunt.
The young ones even took part in a game where they collected balls thrown into the water using paddle boats and nets.
Perbadanan Putrajaya (PPj) president Tan Sri Samsudin Osman flagged off the 500m longboat race finals to mark the close of the festival.
The four categories were Open, Community, Government Agency and Putrajaya Schools.
SMK P9/1 won in the Schools category, while PPj B grabbed the title under the Government Agency category.
Team Comeh Dragon won in the Community category, while team Terengganu emerged first in the Open category.
