Holiday camp

Astro is running a Kampus Astro School Holiday Camp today and tomorrow at the National Science Centre (10am–4pm). There will be various children activities — from colouring to games of tug-of-war as well as appearances of cartoon character mascots like Ben 10, Powerpuff Girls and Astro Ceria Gerak Geri Gasing hosts.

Suaram concert

In conjunction with the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) will be organising a concert themed “Get up! Stand up! Stand up for your rights!”. The concert begins at 3pm at the KLSCAH-MCPA Hall in Jalan Maharajalela, Kuala Lumpur. There will be performances by Mei Chern, Rozaimin, Shock System, Komplot, Couple, Dum Dum Tak and 2nd Floor To Jump. There would also be a short documentary entitled Mari Kita Beractivism! by (Pusat Komunikasi Masyarakat (KOMAS) and the Big Pictures Production. Admission is at RM10 per person. Timeless classic

Don’t miss Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol as it hits the Malaysian stage this month at KLPac-Pentas 1. The story sees Ebenezer Scrooge lost not only the spirit of Christmas, but also himself somewhere along his life’s journey. Enter the three Ghosts of Christmas — Past, Present and Future — to shake, rattle and roll him back on the right path, and help him find redemption from his bitter existence. This show is directed by Christopher Ling, with the assistance of Mark Beau de Silva, and features original music by music director, Nick Choo and stars Darius Taraporvala. Haunting dance

Inspired by tales of the pontianak, A Delicate Situation explores the themes of birth, fear, and revenge, communicated in creature-like movement. This exciting new, full-length contemporary dance work was created by Australian choreographer in-residence at Rimbun Dahan, Lina Limosani. It will be performed by a small group of talented and experienced Malaysian dancers from different dance backgrounds, namely Low Shee Hoe, Rathimalar Govindarajoo, Suhaili Micheline and Elaine Pedley. The work will also feature costumes by Canadian costume designer Eve Lambert. It will be staged at KLPac Pentas 2 till tomorrow. For details call 03–4043 9000.

Helping strays

TODAY Sid’s Pub and Furry Friends’ Farm is holding a fun-filled party in Remembering The Homeless Strays at the animal friendly pub in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, from 3pm to 7pm. Raffle tickets for the event is priced at RM50 each in return of free drinks and snacks. Proceeds from the day will be channelled to the purchase of dog food for the Furry Friends Farm Animal Shelter in Kundang, Selangor, and other independent animal rescuers. Walk-a-Payung

Malaysian SLE Association (PSLEM) is organising Walk-a-Payung 2008, a walkathon in aid of people suffering from Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), held tomorrow at Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall, Selangor, Par­ticipants would have to carry umbrellas in the 2km event. The family event will also feature free health screening (blood sugar, blood pressure, and body mass index tests), music and dance performances and a Fun Quiz on SLE. Japanese hero

Masked Rider Kabuto, one of Japanese favourite superheroes is in town in conjunction with Masked Rider Kabuto Christmas Showdown organised by Sungei Wang Plaza. Fans can meet him today ‘live’ on stage and take photographs with him at 1pm, 4pm and 7pm at the concourse level of Sungei Wang Plaza.
