KUANTAN: A total of 277 poor students received financial assistance from a non-governmental organisation here to help them to start school next year.
The aid was provided by Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia from funds raised through its community activities this year.
Its Kuantan centre coordinator Kong Siew Kuan said each student was given RM300 which to purchase school items like uniforms, shoes, bags and stationery.
He said the recipients of all races were selected from 11 Chinese and two Tamil primary schools in the district.
“Several secondary students from SM Sri Mahkota, SM Air Putih and SM Semambu were also given assistance.
“We hope the money will be put to good use before the new school term starts,” she said during the presentation at SJK (C) Pei Chai here recently.
The recipients were accompanied by their parents during the ceremony which also saw the foundation members putting up a show.
