KUANTAN: Despite the unfavourable weather, scores of Kuantan folks braved the rain to donate for a worthy cause at Wisma MCA in Jalan Bukit Ubi here recently.
Some 46 cars pulled up at the premises to drop off goods in kind.
It is a yearly activity organised by the Kuantan Wanita MCA division to collect used clothes for the needy.
Division chief Tan Guek Eng said the three-hour programme went on smoothly despite the monsoon season.
She said the MCA was touched by the generosity and caring attitude of the public.
“They came with their umbrellas while some stayed back to help sort out the items.
“We hope the public will support us in other community-related activities,” she said here recently.
Tan said the clothes would be handed over to the Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia Kuantan branch.
Present to receive the items was the division’s recyclable goods centre supervisor Jerry Mok and several members of the foundation.
Mok said the clothes would be kept at the centre in Jalan Alor Akar and distributed to the needy and flood victims when the need arose.
He said the centre also accepted items such as metal containers, aluminium cans, glass bottles, plastic bottles, old newspaper, books, cartons, posters and any paper.
“Metal items such as iron, copper, used electrical devices and car batteries can also be deposited at our centre during the day,” he said.
The public can visit the centre at A-678 Lorong Alor Akar 4, Off Jalan Beserah (behind Maybank) or contact division office at 09-517 2969/2061.
