JOHOR BARU: The largest book fair in the southern region is expected to attract more than 60,000 visitors during its 11-day duration at Johor Baru City Square here.
The Southern Mega Book Fair until Dec 8 is bound to appeal to book lovers in the state as well as visitors from other states.
Popular Book Co (M) Sdn Bhd operations manager Siew Sheue-Liang said the aim of the fair was to instil the reading habit in people.
“We are pleased to do our part in stressing the importance of reading and one way of doing this is through the book fair.
“There is a wide variety of books and reading materials on offer, ranging from English to Chinese titles as well as stationery,” he said.
Siew added that multimedia products, gift items and CDs were available with discounts of up to 50% at the fair.
Other than books, shoppers can look forward to entertainment events at the fair.
“In conjunction with the school holidays, the fair will feature special programmes to entertain children and parents.
“There will 41 events such as autograph sessions by overseas authors including Russell Lee, the author of True Singapore Ghost Stories and Taiwan authors Tiffany Chang, Jian Zhi Yan, Lay Shwu Hui and Chen Kuang,” he said.
“The first day, a preview for Popular card members, will offer promotions to show appreciation to customers for their loyalty.
“Free gifts will be given to new Popular card members,” he said.
Besides this, the fair will feature craft activities, a colouring contest, free eye checks, educational talks, English workshops and dance performances.
“There are more than 15,000 books available and visitors can enjoy attractive discounts.
“Parents are encouraged to bring their children to enjoy the activities and books at the fair,” Siew said.
