IN conjunction with the National Citizens Day in October, Guardian recently organised a ‘Wellness For All’ fair at the Ikano Power Centre for senior citizens and the Guardian Golden Privilege card members.
The annual event aims to create greater awareness on how senior citizens can pursue an active and fun-filled life even during their golden years.
Every year, the retail chain contributes to an organisation dedicated to care for the elderly. Last year, they donated to the Malaysian Parkinson’s Disease Association.
At the launch ceremony for the fair, Guardian chief operating officer Loi Liang Tok presented a mock cheque to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of Malaysia (ADFM) honorary chairman Datuk Dr Yim Khai Kee.
“We believe in playing an active role not only in business but also to reinforce our commitment to the less fortunate and not forgetting our senior citizens,” said Loi.
Among the highlights of the event was a yoga exercise session where those who attended the launch were seen taking part in the breathing and stretching exercises with gusto.
There was also a health talk on Osteoporosis by Dr Kok Choong Seng.
Golden Privilege members were also entitled to health screenings that included BMI (Body Mass Index), blood pressure, random blood sugar (RBS) and free consultation by the Columbia Asia Hospital.
Chan Suan Kia, 64, a Golden Privilege cardmember, came for the health talk as she often attends such talks.
“I love to occupy my time and I feel that I’m always young at heart. Age doesn’t matter,” said the retired teacher.
The Golden Privilege Card now has more than 50,000 members since it was introduced in 1989.
Malaysians aged 55 and above are eligible to apply for it to enjoy a 10% discount on pharmaceutical items, health supplements and other health related products at Guardian stores nationwide.
