TEMERLOH: Students should take part in all sporting events, including those previously dominated by a single race, said Deputy Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.
He said sports activities were the best way to foster racial integration.
“Sports belong to all because it doesn’t segregate. For instance, Malays can play basketball, Indians can play table tennis,” he said at the 2008 Malaysia Schools Sports Council’s (MSSM) basketball development course at the National Youth Skills Institute.
The Temerloh MP said, besides scouting for new talent to represent the country, the government was willing to spend a huge sum of money to provide sports facilities to encourage sporting activities among the people and promote a healthy lifestyle.
“I hope we will not make sports a racial border, but instead, regardless of race, everyone can play basketball, sepak takraw, badminton, football, hockey, squash and other sports together,” he said. Bernama.
