THE Malaysia International Fashion Week (MIFW) is back to excite the fashion industry with a line-up of exciting events.
The annual event will be held from Nov 26 to 29 at the ballroom in The Gardens Hotel and Residences in Kuala Lumpur.
The Malaysia International Fashion Alliance (MIFA) recently signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with sponsors and partners of the upcoming event.
With participants from more than 23 countries, the event is set to be a platform for top designers as well as upcoming designers to wow the crowd.
Top Malaysian designers to look out for at the MIFW include Carven Ong, Eric Choong, Andy Sulaiman and Jonathan Cheng.
According to MIFA chairman Heah Sieu Lay, the fashion event will feature the hottest fresh faces that have been making a splash in the past few years.
“This year, we will be showcasing a lot of designers from the region. The collaboration with international parties will see an entourage of buyers and developers from China and Russia. The support has been overwhelming,” he said.
“This year’s MIFW will be more trade-driven. MIFW ’08 will definitely be a highlight of the region’s fashion week calendar,” said MIFA CEO Syeba Yip.
The Gardens Hotel and Residences general manager Jesse Chevrez views the MIFW as an opportunity for the hotel to promote fashion tourism.
International model and celebrity Amber Chia, who was revealed as the face of MIFW ’08 at the event, was ecstatic to be part of the prestigious event.
“I’m glad that I can help promote Malaysian fashion to the rest of the world.
“It’s also a learning opportunity for me as I will get to meet international designers,” she added.
One of the highlights of the MIFW will be the collaboration with the Russian Fashion Week and Global Fashion Alliance (GFA), which will present creations by Serguei Teplov. MIFA is also collaborating with China Bentley Culture Development, which will be bringing in the Chinese entourage that includes designers, media members and buyers.
The Bumiputra Designers Association, under the leadership of its president Puan Mahani Awang, will make its debut at the fashion week with 12 fashion labels.
The Truly Asia fashion show will showcase a new generation of talents from the region.
Representing Malaysia for this segment are twin designers Azalea and Yasmin as well as Jimmy Lim.
The MIFA Style Council Judging Panel will select the winners for the Designer of the Year and Model of the Year awards.
