KUANTAN: Despite making its presence felt here only seven years ago, Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia has managed to recruit over 4,000 members.
Its Kuantan centre coordinator Kong Siew Kuan said the organisation had another 100 active volunteers to assist in activities.
She said the members and volunteers were from all age groups including students and grandmothers.
“Those from the younger and middle-aged groups will assist us in community activities and maintaining our recycle centre every Sunday.
“The women help us to cook meals for the needy and less fortunate,” she said in an interview.
Kong said members would occasionally gather to cook vegetarian meals for a group of mentally challenged residents of a welfare home in Alor Akar.
She said they would also help to cut the hair for residents in the home once every two months.
During festive season, Kong said the organisation would organise a blood donation campaign to replenish the blood supply in hospitals.
“We hope more people will come forward to assist us by becoming a member or a volunteer,” she said.
Kong said a performance titled “The Great Love” would be held on November 1 to enable the public to know more about the organisation and its activities in helping the needy.
The public can also help by donating recyclable items such as paper, glass, metal, plastic, aluminium and used clothings.
Its recycle centre is located at A678, Lorong Alor Akar 4, Off Jalan Beserah.
