FRUIT enzyme is getting popular in Penang in recent months, especially among housewives.
Homeopathy and naturopathy doctor Joean Oon claimed that fruit enzyme, when added to drinking water, would break down the water molecules into finer particles to help the body absorb it.
Oon added that this was an affordable alternative and like eco-enzyme, it worked to neutralise foreign particles in the water.
The making of fruit enzyme involves one ratio of honey and three ratios of fresh fruits to 10 ratios of water depending on the size of the container.
“Mix honey with water first before adding in the sliced fruits. It should then be kept for a minimum of six months for the fermentation process to complete,” she said.
Oon advised the people to use honey instead of sugar which she claimed would produce high alcohol content.
“The high alcohol content is not healthy for the liver,” she said at her Natural Homeopathy Care Centre in Tanjung Bungah, Penang.
Other than enzyme, she also encouraged the drinking of fruit and vegetable juice.
She said many people tended to skip meals because of their busy lifestyle.
Oon said she learned about the benefit of enzymes from Dr Rosukon Poompanvong from Thailand two years ago and had since been promoting its use nationwide at talks and workshops.
“I’m not promoting the enzymes but I’m advocating good health that can be obtained without the need to pay a lot and which can easily be carried out at home,” she said.
