THE Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) has identified tug-of-war as a sport for the masses.
And with the support from the Selangor government and the Selayang Municipal Council, the MSNS will be organising the Merdeka Tug-of-War carnival at Batu Caves from Aug 29 to 31.
MSNS deputy chairman Amirudin Shari said they would like to start a sports culture in Selangor.
“The MSNS has a programme for high performance sports.
“The programme has been successful and now we are keen to get the masses to be involved be healthy activities.
“Tug-of-war is an excellent event for people to take part.
“The location is also ideal and near the Batu Caves.
“As the event is being held during the National Day holidays, we can expect more tourists,’’ said Amirudin after launching the event in Shah Alam recently.
The tug-of-war has seven categories — Open (uniformed men, men and women) and Closed (men, women, Under-20 boys and Under-20 girls). The organisers are expecting about 30 teams, including teams from outside the Klang Valley.
Amirudin said there would be weight categories in the Open event.
Entry forms are available at all local councils and MSNS in Shah Alam.
