ACTRESS VANIDA Imran is a familiar face on the Malaysian entertainment scene. The 35-year-old is famous for her roles in movies like The Red Kebaya, Tujuh Perhentian, Mami Jarum, Perempuan Melayu Terakhir and Putera.
Born in Penang, Vanida grew up in Kuala Lumpur and completed her secondary education at Convent Bukit Nanas in the heart of the city.
“KL is the only place I knew growing up,” the bubbly actress said.
Vanida is married to actor Rashidi Ishak and they have two children, aged seven and four.
As much as she feels at home in KL, Vanida feels that the public transport system can be improved.
“We don’t have enough LRT stations here. Some places don’t even have stations. I was in London and the subway there is so convenient,” she said.
What do you like about KL?
KL has everything, from food to fashion to the best colleges.
What do you dislike about KL?
The jam. Even if you know shortcuts to get around a jam, it is still unpredictable.
What is your favourite food?
I love food so it’s hard for me to name one in particular. If I really had to, I’d say sushi.
Where do you like to eat in KL?
There’s a stall in Taman Maluri, that sells good fried kueh teow and fresh fruit juices. It has been there since I was a kid. The father used to run it and now the son has taken over.
What do you do to relax?
I read a lot. Sometimes if I’m really stressed at work, I’ll go to the gym after that and run on the treadmill. I also relax by spending time with my kids.
