MALACCA: Owners of 729ha of idle padi fields throughout the state have been urged to lease them to the state owned Syarikat Padi Melaka Sdn Bhd in a move to increase rice production here.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said that at present the rice production here totalled 4,000 metric tonnes, representing only 7.5% of the estimated 53,290 metric tonnes needed for consumption per year.
