Foreign call girls work from ‘home’

FOREIGN prostitutes especially those from China have resorted to operating from home following the police’s constant raids on health centres, some of which are fronts for brothels and karaoke lounges.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Azam Abd Hamid said police made the findings following a raid on an apartment in Bandar Baru Air Itam where a man, in his 50s, and a Chinese national were nabbed at 11.30pm on Wednesday.

“The woman tried to flee by jumping from the first floor but failed as she broke her right leg upon landing. Two of her flatmates escaped in the same manner without injuring themselves.

“Our checks showed that the women entered the country as tourists but worked in a karaoke lounge as guest relations officers. Our nightly anti-vice raids codenamed Ops Noda had driven such women underground,” he said.

ACP Azam said they were now gathering information on these women’s “hideouts”, adding that flat owners should be watchful of their tenants and not rent out their premises indiscriminately.

Under Section 373 of the Penal Code, he said flat owners were liable to be charged for allowing their premises to be used as a brothel and faced a jail term of up to 15 years with a possible fine if convicted.

“Since January, the district anti-vice branch has rounded up more than 600 such women from China, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Myanmar. We are also going after their employers.

He said outlets which were raided frequently would have their licences revoked upon recommendation.
