THEY are bright, young and ready to to become volunteers at the Beijing Olympics.
This batch of 10 Malaysians were selected from 258 applicants who went through an interview and selection process.
“At first, the China Olympic Committe only offered six places to Malaysia. But later, upon appeal, they allowed for an additional four spots.
“This is the first time Malaysia is sending volunteers,” said volunteer selection committee chief Loh Chew June.
The Sunshine Youth Club, under MCA Youth, was the organisation responsible in get–ting Malaysians to become volunteers.
Lee said among the 10 volunteers there were doctors, an editor and entrepreneurs.
The ten will return on Aug 26.
Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Wee Jeck Seng said the volunteers should take the opportunity to become good ambassadors for the country.
“They should also be commended for their willingness to go to the Olympics at their own expense.
“However, this is really a chance not be missed,” he said.
