WITH the new mobile glass-sided squash court, the Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) will be able to stage the Malaysian Open in other states.
Pizza Hut, as part of its corporate social responsibility, has contributed RM700,000 as sponsorship for the purchase of the mobile squash court.
SRAM president Datuk A. Sani Karim said they were grateful to QSR Brands, the operators of Pizza Hut, for the sponsorship.
“Now that we have the mobile squash court, we will be able to organise competitions in other parts of the country. But it will very much depend on sponsors. If sponsors come forward to support and also request for the event to be outside the Klang Valley, then we will be prepared to oblige,'' said Sani after the handing-over ceremony at The Curve, Mutiara Damansara in Kuala Lumpur.
The Curve will be the venue for the CIMB-Malaysian Open squash championships this year. The qualifying rounds and first round matches will be played at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil from July 21 to 23. The second round onwards will be played at The Curve from July 24.
The new squash court will be erected at the Centre Court at The Curve. The seating gallery has also been set up at the Centre Court.
QSR Brands managing director Jamaludin Md Ali said they were pleased to support SRAM's vision to promote and develop Malaysia as a force in squash.
“Sport is one of the important building blocks of our society and we recognise its importance in promoting healthy and active lifestyles. We have a number of programmes supporting sports.
National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Zolkples Embong was also present at the handing over ceremony.
