The budding gymnasts training under the Total Gymnastique banner made a clean sweep of the top spots in all categories.

Ng: We want our trainees tocompete against their peersfrom other schools.

Total Gymnastique chief coach Mike Ng said they hosted the annual meet to encourage the pupils from private primary schools in the Klang Valley to do better in gymnastics.

“Although we have been organising our internal competitions regularly, we want our trainees to compete against their peers from other schools.

“Our aim was to create a level playing field contest with competitors of similar strength. It was also an avenue for them to build self-confidence,” he added.

The judging panel comprised six judges including former national gymnast Nurul Fatiha Abdul Hamid and national coach Nataliya Sinkova from Ukraine.

“We invited neutral judges to evaluate the participants. The competitors were required to execute elementary routines.

We emphasised four elements of the dominant movement patterns such as jump, rotation, balance and acrobatic manoeuvres. We want them to perform the basics in good form,” said Ng.

Besides Sri Kuala Lumpur, two other schools in the fray were Sri Cempaka from Cheras and Sri Cahaya from Shah Alam.

More than 40 participants took part in the boys’ and girls’ Under-10 and Under-12 categories.

Tough discipline: Takehana performing the parallel bar routinein the boys' Under-12 category.

The boys featured in four disciplines – floor exercise, vault, parallel bar and mount while the girls competed in floor exercise, vault, balance beam and mount.

“For the girls, the balance beam was the toughest because they had to turn in four directions. Executing the swing on the parallel bar was the hardest part for the boys,” added Ng.

In the girls’ Under-12 section, Nur Sabrina Mohammad from Sri Kuala Lumpur chalked up a perfect outing and won all four disciplines to emerge the top performer.

Meanwhile, Syuya Takehana also from Sri Kuala Lumpur bagged three – vault, parallel bar and mount – of the four individual disciplines to clinch the overall title in the boys’ Under-12 section.
