KUCHING: The Federal Government will bear the annual RM200mil subsidy to maintain the price of imported Super 15% (super white rice 15% broken) at its control price of RM1.80 a kg in Sarawak.
Chief operating officer Mohd Kamaluddin Mohd Effendie of Beras Corporation Sdn Bhd, the Sabah and Sarawak distributor for Padiberas Nasional Berhad (Bernas), said the state consumed 200,000 tonnes of rice and would import 18,000 tonnes from Thailand and Vietnam annually.
