PASIR GUDANG: Workers in the Pasir Gudang and Tanjung Langsat industrial estates can look forward to a free bus service soon, courtesy of Titan Chemicals Corp Bhd.
The service is expected to startin three months time for workersstaying in Johor Baru. Titan Petchem(M) Sdn Bhd vice president,(government relations, administrationand health) Sam Tan HockGhee said the project was part ofthe company’s corporate socialresponsibility initiative.
“We decided to provide the serviceas there is no proper publictransportation from Johor Baru toPasir Gudang and Tanjung Langsat,”he said at the launch of Titan’sPlastic Education Programme recently.
The company's managing directorThomas Patrick Grehl andEducation Ministry assistantdirector (School Division) MohdFadzil Mohd Jaafar were also presentat the event.
Known as the Community TransportServices (CTS), buses willferry workers from different partsof Johor Baru to their work place.
He said it was important to providetransportation to PasirGudang and Tanjung Langsat consideringthat a large number ofJohor Baru residents were workingthere.
Tan said the company was talkingto the relevant authorities includingthe state, Road TransportDepartment, Commercial VehicleLicensing Board and Pasir GudangLocal Authority on the project.
He said the company receivedpositive response on the proposedproject and the authorities havegiven ideas on how to run the project.
Tan said under the CTS project,the company would engage a professionaltransport operator toprovide the buses and chargeaccordingly for the services rendered.
“Initially, we are looking at fivebuses and some 200 workers areexpected to benefit from the service,”he said.
Tan said the company plannedto build more bus shelters withinPasir Gudang.
