EXCITING and interesting encounters are expected during the Wilson Malaysian Seniors age group tennis championship at the National Tennis Centre in Jalan Duta from May 22 to 25.
Tournament director Norman Woo said the championship had attracted several former internationals.
“They are still actively involved in tennis and have the capability to play some exciting tennis. The matches involving the former national players should be interesting.
“Most of the former internationals will see action in the men’s 50-54 and 55-59 age groups,” said Woo at the sponsorship presentation ceremony.
Besides the two age groups, the six other age groups for the men’s singles and doubles are 35-39 years, 40-44 years, 45-49 years, 60-64 years, 65-69 years and 70 years and above.
For the women, there will be two age groups – 35-44 years and 45 years and above – and the matches will be played indoors.
Wilson is the main sponsor while the co-sponsors are AmBank Group, Zang Toi and Marigold.
The organisers are expecting a good turnout to the four-day championship, sanctioned by the Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia (LTAM). Besides participants from the Klang Valley, the championship has also attracted players from Terengganu and Sarawak.
“The players look at the championship as an opportunity to meet old friends,” added Woo.
Entry fee is RM50 per player to feature in both singles and doubles for each age group. For more information, call 03-6201 6170 / 73 (LTAM office) or 012-2885721.
