KOTA KINABALU: More airtime will be given on news for Sabah and Sarawak through RTMs Warta Negeri slot at 5pm.
Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek said 15 minutes would be allocated for the news feed to facilitate more national coverage for both East Malaysian states.
The present five-minute slot is insufficient as both states have to take turns to give their main news. In the new schedule, each state will be given seven-and-a-half minutes or more.
Ahmad Shabery said he hoped the move would help strengthen national integration.
News from both states will also be included in RTM's Warta Perdana depending on their importance.
He noted that there were many interesting news stories in Sabah and Sarawak, and by providing more airtime, viewers in Peninsular Malaysia could get a better insight into the states.
