Two new categories - boys’ Under 12 and girls' Under-12 - have been included in the Power 10km Run to be held at Dataran Merdeka on April 27.
Bata Malaysia senior marketing manager Datuk James Selvaraj said they would like parents to join the kids in both the categories.
“We want the Power 10km Run to be a family affair. With the two new age groups, we expect parents to join the kids in the 3km event.
“The 3km event should be a start for children keen to take up athletics. Eventually we would like to see them move up the ladder to the longer distance,” said James at the launching of the run recently.
The Power 10km Run is organised by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall and Federal Territory Amateur Athletics Association (FTAAA) while Milo and 100Plus are the co-sponsors. Kuala Lumpur Schools Sports Council (MSSKL) has also come forward to support the Run.
Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja'afar and FTAAA secretary S. Vegiyathuman were present at the launching.
The event has 11 categories – men’s open (18 years and above), women’s open (18 years and above), men’s junior veteran (40-49 years), 7km men’s senior veteran (50 years and above), 7km women’s veteran (35 years and above), 7km men’s junior (16-17 years), 7km women’s junior (16-17 years), 5km boys (13-15 years), 5km girls (13-15 years), 3km boys (10-12 years) and 3km girls (10-12 years).
