THE Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) will celebrate its Golden Jubilee by organising eight events in the Klang Valley.
The events, to be held on April 23-26, will be hosted by Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur. Selangor have been given the responsibility to organise four events namely athletics, badminton, squash and bowling; Putrajaya will be in charge of sepak takraw and netball while Kuala Lumpur will host football and hockey.
Deputy Education Minister Datuk Noh Omar launched the MSSM's 50th anniversary celebrations in Putrajaya during the cross-country championships recently.
“In the past years, the events were hosted by the various states but this year, in conjunction with the golden jubilee celebrations, the eight sports will be organised as a carnival in the Klang Valley,'' said Noh after launching the logo.
The Education Ministry, Noh added, was committed towards grooming athletes for the country. He said students had contributed 24 gold medals, 14 silver medals and 24 bronzes medals to the Malaysian contingent in the SEA Games in Korat last December.
“We are happy with their performance. The ministry has decided to reward the athletes for their achievements. All gold medallists will receive RM1,000, silver medallist RM700 and it is RM500 for the bronze medallists.
“The incentive is in appreciation of the athletes’ sacrifices towards bringing glory for the nation,” added Noh.
