EMIRATES, for the third consecutive season, has become the official airline of the Maybank Malaysian Open golf championships which kicked off at the Kota Permai Golf and Country Club in Kota Kemuning recently.
During the tournament, the airline will also play host to more than 150 business associates, captains of industry and select media within the Emirates marquee that overlooks the 18th green.
Emirates' golf sponsorship portfolio is indeed an extensive one which since 1987, has established a strong link with sports events programmes and is an avid supporter of amateur and professional golf tournaments both locally and globally, said Alban Lee, Emirates Country Manager, Malaysia.
For the past three years, Emirates has hosted an array of exciting activities for both golfing and non golfing enthusiasts during the Maybank Malaysian Open and this year will be no different.
The Maybank Malaysian Open, is offering a total prize purse of RM 6.4 million (USD 2 million), it is co-sanctioned by European and Asian Tours, and carries substantial world ranking points attracting some of the biggest names in golf.
Leading the line up of professional golfers is two-time Maybank Malaysian Open champion, Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand, Darren Clark, a member of the Ryder Cup winner team, David Howell, Jeev Milkha Singh, Rory Mcllroy and Charls Schwartzel.
Proceeds from a variety of activities, organised by Emirates, will be donated to the Kedah Disaster Fund. Emirates will also host a golf clinic for underprivileged children from Praise Emmanuel Children's Home (PECH). PECH is a home that houses 20 children ranging in age from between five and 17 years, irrespective of race or religion.
