PENANG: Ninety-three foreign vice-workers have been rounded up from various karaoke lounges and health centres in George Town over the past week.
OCPD Asst Comm Azam Abd Hamid said the women, in their 20s and 30s, mostly from China were picked up during an operation codenamed "Ops Noda".
“We raided a health centre, which was a front for a brothel, on Jalan Transfer and arrested 21 women from China and Vietnam at 11pm on Monday.
“We are now compiling a list of outlets which have been constantly raided so that their operating licences would be revoked upon our recommendation to the district office.
“There would be no let up in our operations.
“A total of 505 foreign vice workers were nabbed last year,” he said when met at his office yesterday.
ACP Azam warned that the vice centre operators might also find themselves banished from the state under the Restricted Residence Enactment if they insisted on continuing with their operations.
He added that a special task force had been set up to conduct raids on these centres on a daily basis.
