SUNGEI Wang is all set to usher in the coming Chinese New Year with its own Golden Lunar Celebration exhibition and performance which started on Jan 18 and will go on till Feb 14, the eighth day of Chinese New Year.

Officially launched by deputy Home Affairs Minister Datuk Tan Chai Ho, the Golden Lunar Celebrations promises a series of exciting performances, exhibitions and decorations prepared to attract shoppers to the shopping paradise.

Instead of adorning their halls with mostly red decorations, the management decided to use the colour gold as the main theme for their decorations this year, said K K Lim, Sungei Wang’s marketing and promotions manager.

Indeed, Sungei Wang has been transformed into a traditional Chinese mansion.

The main entrance features a wooden courtyard and a Chinese inspired roof with a large walkway complete with statues of the 12 lunar animals, each holding a golden coin symbolising wealth, luck and prosperity.

Further in the mall, a garden of flowering plants, pagoda inspired multi-tiered gazebos and an ornate moon gate welcome shoppers into the concourse level.

In its centre court is the main stage decorated to resemble part of the emperor’s Summer Palace in China. Large golden trees with jade leaves tasselled with lanterns in yellow and red can be seen everywhere in the shopping mall.

Of course, that is not all Sungei Wang has to offer. Shoppers and visitors can also look forward to various performances while browsing for New Year items.

Festive touch: A large walkway complete with statues of the 12lunar animals, each holding a golden coin symbolising wealth, luckand prosperity greet visitors to Sungei Wang.

Acrobatic performances by the China Oriental Arts Troupe from Guang Dong and Guang Xi China are set to wow spectators. There will be fire juggling, pyramid building and high chair stunts.

While lion dance performances are going to be held to usher in new fortunes, the God of Prosperity, Longevity & Happiness will be making appearances at the mall to bless shoppers with wealth, health and happiness.

At the concourse level, the China Arts & Crafts Exhibition features traditional craft such as calligraphy, ink painting, silk embroidery, knotting art, oil paintings, jade crystal accessories, snuff bottle paintings and even fortune telling.

“We hope the year of the Rat will bring fortune and prosperity to all. Nevertheless, hard work and diligence should be practiced to strive for excellence in all our endeavours,'' said Tan.

In his speech, president of Sungei Wang Plaza Merchants Association Yee Man also hoped for more facilities to aid the disabled and improved security to enable visitors to the Golden Triangle shop comfortably.
