KUANTAN: Hazi Hafizah Usolludin has been a lecturer with a private college for only two years but she has already started producing commendable students, with the latest of her three charges obtaining a GPA of 4 in their recent examination.
Hazi Hafizah was named best lecturer and rewarded by Kolej Shahputra here recently.
Her students, Azira Hashim, Siti Ramdonnah Sumar and Zuraini Ismail, were among 24 students who achieved good grades in their last semester examination.
The three were among the first batch of 12 students pursuing a Diploma in Tourism Management under a franchise programme between the college and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).
A special ceremony was held at the college’s auditorium in Bandar Indera Mahkota and attended by UiTM education development institute director Assoc Prof Dr Rosmin Talib, its collaborative education centre head Prof Madya Zaidi Mohd Aminuddin, flexible learning education centre official Abdul Rahim Mohd Merah and Kolej Shahputra chief executive officer Datuk Dr Azman Zaini Abdul Ghanie.
Hazi said she worked at three hotels in Kuantan and Kuala Lumpur for eight years before becoming a lecturer in Tourism Management.
“The syllabus and my experience of working in the hotel line are good combinations when it comes to teaching my students.
“However, I have to give credit to them as well as they are hard working and fast learners,” she said.
Another ingredient she added to the recipe of producing good students was simply being friendly to them.
Azira, who did her practical training at the Terengganu tourism agency with Zuraini, said Hazi Hafizah’s classes helped her a lot during the attachment period.
As for Siti Ramdonnah, her practical training at a major travel agency in Kuantan was so fruitful that the company offered her a job. She had to decline as there was another semester to go.
“I helped them to come up with a tourism package and it is still being used by the company.
“Of course, I am proud and happy with my achievement,” she added.
