Campaign on good practices of energy efficiency

THE My Energy Smart Home Campaign 2008 will be launched on Saturday at Queensbay Mall, South Zone, Penang. 

In a statement, the organisers said the campaign was to increase the level of knowledge as well as to educate the public on the good practices of energy efficiency among households in Penang. 

Energy efficiency concerns using electricity wisely in order to accomplish the same task, whether at home or the working place. 

In conjunction with the campaign, an exhibition will also be held from 10.30am to 10.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.  

Among the exhibitors are Penang Development Corporation (PDC), Osram (M) Sdn Bhd, Centre of Education and Training in Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency (CETREE), Pensonic, Solartech Sales & Service Sdn Bhd and USM. The exhibitors will showcase energy efficiency products and equipment. 

Another activity is the PDC Community Outreach Programmes at four housing areas on Jan 20 and Jan 27.  

It will be held at Pangsapuri Golf View, Bukit Jambul, on Jan 20, and at Halaman Prima, Halaman Areka and Halaman Teratai, Bukit Jambul, on Jan 27.  

Activities lined up include Energy Smart Home award, children’s colouring contest, solar cooker demonstration, mini solar racing car demonstration, CETREE mobile van demonstration, short talk by sponsor and exhibition. 

For a more extensive coverage, the Myvi Energy Smart Squad will be visiting nine shopping complexes in Penang and Seberang Prai on Saturday, Jan 19, Jan 26 and Jan 27.  

Its itinerary is Queensbay Mall from noon to 2pm on Saturday, Midlands Park Centre (1.30pm – 3.30pm, Jan 19), Island Plaza (4pm – 6pm, Jan 19), Carrefour Seberang Jaya (11am – 1pm, Jan 26), Megamal Pinang (1.30pm – 3.30pm, Jan 26), Giant Prai (4pm – 6pm, Jan 26), BM Plaza (7pm – 9pm, Jan 26), Giant Bayan Baru (1.30pm – 3.30pm, Jan 27), and Prangin Mall (4.30pm – 6.30pm, Jan 27). 

Among the activities are the distribution of brochures, pamphlets and leaflets on the campaign, game of question and answer, giving away of products samples, discount vouchers and coupons to the public, and questionnaires on energy consumption for audience to fill up. 

The closing ceremony of the campaign will be held on March 9 at the main lobby of PDC building, Bayan Baru. 

The campaign is jointly organised by the School of Communications, Universiti Sains Malaysia, in collaboration with CETREE and PDC. 

The campaign is being supported by Osram, Pensonic, Queensbay Mall, The Star, Kwong Wah Yit Poh and RTM.
