TPCA Club makes it to the top after decade-long hiatus

AFTER almost a decade, the Tamilian Physical Cultural Association (TPCA) are back in action in hockey. 

TPCA, with several former international and state players on their side, emerged as the Division Three champions in the Kuala Lumpur Hockey Association (KLHA) league recently. 

TPCA manager Balakrishnan Gopal was delighted with the triumphant return and said it was because of committed and dedicated players. 

“We were actively involved in the Selangor Hockey Association (SHA) league until it was discontinued 10 years ago. The players had also moved to other places.  

“This year we managed to regroup the players. TPCA had also set up its clubhouse in Kuala Lumpur. 

“The TPCA became affiliated to KLHA and decided to take part in the league and the members were supportive and showed their presence during league matches,” Balakrishnan said. 

The former internationals playing for TPCA are Anthony Dass, Izwan Hassan, N. Kesavamoorthy, Kamaruddin Abdullah and Henry Joseph while the state players are K. Seri Nageswaran, Zulkifli Hamzah, I. Somasundram, K. Palaniappan and G. Thanaraj. 

As the champions, TPCA will be promoted to Division Two for the new season.

Balakrishnan said they would continue to train and were looking forward to another podium finish in the league. 

Next year, the TPCA will also be taking part in the Kris Club Hockey competition in Jakarta, Indonesia.
