THE crowd gathered at the entrance of a Penang shopping complex, eagerly waiting to meet local artiste Johnson Wee Chu Yen.Â
When he stepped onto a makeshift stage, more shoppers crowded the entrance.Â
The 23-year-old winner of last year’s 8TV-Project Superstar then serenaded the crowd with three Mandarin pop songs, showing off his smooth vocals.Â
Dressed in a white T-shirt and black vest and pants, he sang On The Way, Listen To Me and I’ll Be Good.Â

In between songs, Wee gave away prizes and posed for photographs with winners of a quiz on Penang Global City Centre (PGCC).Â
The sporting Kuching lad also showed how to ride a Segway personal transport gadget. Â
Flashing his boyish smile, Wee posed for shoppers who were armed with digital cameras and camera phones.Â
The last 20 minutes of his one-hour special appearance were spent signing autographs on PGCC postcards which he had distributed earlier.Â
Wee was a guest artiste at the PGCC roadshow at Gurney Plaza on Sunday. The roadshow will end this Sunday. Â
The first roadshow was held at Queensbay Mall from Oct 27 to Nov 4.Â
The roadshows were part of project de-veloper Abad Naluri Sdn Bhd’s effort to relay information to the public on the role of PGCC as a catalyst for economic acti- vity, employment and business opportunities. Â
A PGCC slogan competition was also held. Â
