The Healing Chi Association of Malaysia (HCAM), a non-profit organisation, which promotes the art of Chi Dynamics for health and wellness of the community, conducted a workshop for cancer sufferers and survivors recently.
Founded by Anthony Wee, Chi Dynamics focused on a technique called the block of breathing as an approach to cancer care. Apparently Wee helped his father to overcome his bronchial cancer through this technique.
With two cancer care venues namely Cancer Link and Persatuan Alumni University Malaya, the association wants to create awareness of this new method and spread the alternative technique. To jumpstart the programme, a booklet titled Cancer Care with Chi Dynamics was published and distributed for free to cancer patients and caregivers.
According to HCAM chairperson Dr.Gan Eng Meng, many cancer survivors who had read the booklet and used the method benefited from it.
Katryn Ng was diagnosed with fourth stage lymphoma that spread to her bone marrow in 2005.
”I was not about to give up without a fight. I was given the booklet by a friend, and I taught myself to do the block of breathing exercise,” she said.
“I diligently practiced three times a day for 1 hour sessions. I underwent chemotherapy without any problems and my blood counts increased. I believe that discipline and consistency is the key to obtaining the benefits of the method, a very positive attitude and proper care and exercise.”
Dr. Gan said that a cancer care subcommittee had been formed to look into the training of more cancer care trainers, in addition to organising workshops for public knowledge and information. It is the ultimate aim of the association to reach out to as many cancer patients as possible. A cancer care workshop is being planned for next year to coincide with Wee's visit.
