BE inspired by the spirit and contributions of the late Tan Sri Alex Lee, the 32 recipients of the Tan Sri Alex Lee Excellence Award were told.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said Lee had during his lifetime contributed a lot to the development of youths, especially in the sports sector.
“He was the key player behind the success of Malaysia in hosting the 1998 Commonwealth Games,” he said during the award presentation ceremony at Gerakan headquarters in Penang recently.
He said Lee was the one who first noticed the potential of the now ‘Squash Queen’ Nicol David and had put a lot of effort in deve-loping her game.
“Lee was an all-rounder who excelled in many areas and had made many contributions to the country,” he added.
Dr Koh said out of the 117 awards given out to the SPM and STPM top scorers in the country, 32 were from Penang. They each received RM1,000.
