Chan shocked by high prices

MIRI: Fifty sen for a glass of water and RM2.30 for a glass of iced-Milo.

Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam is shocked to hear of such prices here.

“The state wants the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry to find out if this is actually happening.

“This is a very unreasonable increase. Appropriate action must be taken against those responsible if such claims are true.

“This sort of thing must not be allowed,” he said on Thursday, when asked to comment on claims by a local newspaper that restaurants and coffee shops in Miri imposed ridiculous prices for drinks.

The Borneo Post said eateries had raised the price of a glass of water by 30 sen from 20 sen previously and iced-Milo was being sold at between RM2.10 and RM2.30 per glass.
