TASIK Biru in Kundang is set to be a water sports and recreation centre. Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) president Zainal Abidin Azim said the area surrounding the lake, encompassing about 32 hectares (80 acres) would be upgraded with a recreation area and a jogging track around the lake.
“It will cost about RM3 million. Besides promoting jet-ski events, we would like Tasik Biru to be a centre for canoeing, boating and water-skiing.
“When the recreation area and jogging track are ready, we will organise more water sporting events at this lake,” said Zainal after the prize-giving ceremony of the Kundang Jet Sports Challenge recently.
Selangor state executive councillor for sports Datuk Ahmad Nawawi M. Zin and MPS deputy president Jamri Basni were also present at the closing ceremony.
Kuang assemblyman Soohaimi Abdul Rahman had mooted the idea of making the lake a suitable venue for water sports and recreation, to the MPS and state government.
Participants in the Jet Ski Challenge competed in four categories – below 800cc, below 1,200cc, Selangor Close and Veteran.
It was the first time a jet-ski competition was held in Tasik Biru.
Adding to the excitement of the Challenge were a durian eating competition, a watermelon eating competition, a colouring competition, and a lucky draw offering a 29-inch television set and bicycles among the prizes.
Stalls selling local delicacies, titbits and drinks were also set up at the competition area where more than 2,000 people were present to watch the jet crafts competing against one another.
