Playing a Nyonya not a drag for Cikgu Baha

Mohd Bahroodin Ahmad, or Cikgu Baha, as he is fondly known, had managed to capture the audience’s full attention within minutes after he appeared on stage during the National Heritage declaration ceremony in Parliament House recently.  

Playing the hilarious Bibik Hitam, a Nyonya matriarch from Penang, he cleared some misconceptions concerning the Peranakan cultures in Malacca, Singapore and Penang, and introduced in a fun way the time-honoured performances of Mak Yong, Wayang Kulit, Bangsawan and Joget.
